The purpose of this study is to investigate the students' sports habit during the summer vacation at the Niigata Institute of Technology. In order to carry out this study, a questionnaire was administered to 231 first-year students. The main results were as follows: 1. Students who played sports activities during the summer vacation were below half. 2. Students spent watching television and video rather than participating sports activities during the summer vacation. 3. Relation between taking part-time job and sports activities was not found. It is not because students are taking at a part-time job that they do not have time to play sports. Students do not seem to be sports-minded. 4. The teacher gave a physical education class for target achievement. However, the purpose was not understood by the students. The teacher wants to give a high quality physical education class for the students. 5. The teacher thinks that he should give physical education class in which students should learn to manage themselves and to spontaneously participate in sports activities during their free time. The teacher also thinks that he should teach them that physical education class is the foundation for life-long sports. |
